What makes a business app a good candidate for the cloud?

Cloud migration specialist Adaptivity is offering its newly-launched Blueprint4Cloud SaaS offering to help organizations that are considering cloudifying their business apps. And according to the company, Blueprint4Cloud was built to save companies that most precious of resources: time.

Months of planning may as well be an eternity, says Jason Noel, vice president and Cloud Practice lead for Adaptivity. In a statement to the press, he says, "In an era where cloud infrastructure can be deployed for use in minutes, businesses are less willing to spend months planning."

As such, Blueprint4Cloud is a blessing and a curse for cloud consulting firms, according to Adaptivity. Those that pride themselves on fast turnarounds stand to gain while those that take a traditional slow and steady approach -- and rack up the fees -- are in danger of seeing the market shoot past them.

"By leveraging our Blueprint4Cloud platform, cloud consumers and consultancies alike can drive to a quantifiable fact-based solution in a fraction of the time and cost of the traditional heavy lifting consulting approach," states Noel.

Adaptivity's software can also help prevent failed cloud deployments by quantifying many of the factors that go into the decision making process.

Blueprint4Cloud leverages its analytics platform to guide businesses in their cloud strategy, planning and migration efforts, says the company, all while minimizing risk. Its technology weighs technical requirements and business considerations to derive a Cloud-fit-index (CFI) score for each app.

If a business app scores well, Blueprint4Cloud lays out a roadmap, suggesting a cloud solution -- taking both private and public cloud ecosystems into consideration -- that offers firms the best match for their business needs and gives them the biggest bang for their buck.

For now, Blueprint4Cloud's recommendations encompass a select number of cloud services and infrastructures. Qualified products include Amazon EC2, Rackspace Open Cloud, IBM Smart Cloud, Fujitsu Global Cloud Platform, Unisys Secure Private Cloud and Nimbula Director-powered private clouds. Adaptivity expects to add more providers in upcoming releases.

Blueprint4Cloud is available now.
