Samsung TecTiles Automate Android Tasks Via NFC

Inexpensive NFC stickers move the world one step closer to "the internet of things."

InformationWeek: Samsung has unveiled a new line of inexpensive near field communication (NFC) tags that it calls TecTiles. The programmable two-inch square stickers can be placed on any non-metallic surface and used to automate actions on Android phones. For exmaple, merchants could use TecTiles in their stores to send a text, display an app or open a Web page on their customers' phones. Or a TecTile at a movie theater or on your bedside table could automatically set phones on vibrate.

Samsung plans to sell TecTiles in packs of 5 for $15. The app for programming the tags is free through Google Play.
