Google Search, Cloud Services Experience Outage

Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs and other Google services were offline for about 40 minutes.

On Wednesday morning, numerous Google services, including search and many cloud-based services, were down for less than an hour. Service was quickly restored, and Google hasn't said what caused the outage.

The Daily Mail reported, "The unthinkable happened for many Google users on Wednesday morning when a number of its services simply stopped working for users. Among the services affected were Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Spreadsheets, Google Plus and YouTube."

CNN's Brandon Griggs added, "In an e-mail to CNN, Google said it received reports of problems with Google services from users in West Virginia, North Carolina, Nebraska and Georgia. 'However, the issue was quickly resolved and is now over. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our users there,' Google said in a statement."

MSN News noted, "The company did not immediately explain the cause of the outage. It wasn't clear how many users were affected."

Computerworld's Sharon Gaudin observed, "The morning outage wasn't lost on users who depend on services like Gmail and Google Docs, not just for personal use but for business use, as well. And they turned to Twitter to make sure they weren't the only ones without access and to vent their frustrations."
