Worldwide Business Intelligence, Analytics and Performance Management Software Market Grew 4 Percent in 2009

According to Gartner, the total spent on this segment of the software industry surpassed $9.3 billion in 2009.

Gartner: In 2009, organizations spent more than $9.3 billion on business intelligence (BI) platform, analytic applications and performance management (PM) software. That's up 4.2 percent from 2008's revenue of $8.9 billion.

“Even though growth was nowhere near the levels of 2008, and by no means immune to the recession, BI showed that it is not as cyclical as many other software areas, recording healthy growth in one of the toughest years recorded in software history,” said Dan Sommer, senior research analyst at Gartner.

The top five vendors in the space include:

  1. SAP (22.4 percent market share)
  2. Oracle (14.5 percent market share)
  3. SAS Institute (14.2 percent market share)
  4. IBM (12.2 percent market share)
  5. Microsoft (7.9 percent market share)
