Worldwide Semiconductor Revenue Fell by More Than 10 Percent in 2009

Gartner reports that semiconductor revenues fell 10.5 percent to $228.4 billion last year.

Gartner: The final figures from Gartner confirm that last year was a tough one for the IT industry. Worldwide semiconductor revenues plummeted 10.5 percent to $26.8 billion. This marks the first time the industry has experienced two consecutive years of decline.

However, the industry has been steadily improving from its weakest point. "After an unprecedented decline in the fourth quarter of 2008 and the first quarter of 2009, sequential quarterly revenue growth for the industry overall was very strong in the last three quarters of 2009," said Peter Middleton, principal research analyst at Gartner. "As a result, 2009 performance overall was much milder than initially feared in the aftermath of the financial crisis."
