WiMAX On Track to Cover More Than 800 Million People Worldwide by End of 2010, and 1 Billion by 2011

A new report shows WiMAX (also known as 4G) is growing quickly everywhere in the world except North America.
Business Wire: New research from the WiMAX Forum shows that 620 million people in 147 countries have access to WiMAX (also known as 4G) networks. By the end of this year, that number should grow to 800 million people, crossing the billion mark sometime in 2011.

However, the regional breakdown of the data shows that North America lags behind the rest of the world in WiMAX adoption. The Asia/Pacific region leads with coverage of 237 million people. By contrast, only 47 million people in North America have access to 4G networks.
