Mobile Security Market to Exceed $4 Billion by 2014

Because of enterprise demand for better security on smartphones, ABI Research believes the number of phones protected by advanced security measure will increase fivefold in the next five years.

ABI Research: In a new report, ABI Research finds that enterprises are very concerned about the risks posed by lost or stolen mobile phones.

"Although malware has been seen in mobile handsets, in the past it has not done much damage," said Stan Schatt, ABI Research vice president. "But smartphones have access to more sensitive data every year, and security must be tightened to prevent the theft or loss of important business information."

In order to provide that tighter security, ABI believes that enterprises will invest in mobile device management platforms that will allow them to lock, erase or locate handsets. Within five years, the number of phones using such measures could increase fivefold, with potential sales of $4 billion.
