Mini-Note (Netbook) Shipments Grow 103% Y/Y in 2009; Revenues Up 72%

Netbooks shine as the bright spot in a tough year for notebook PCs.
DisplaySearch: While overall notebook PC shipments increased 5 percent in 2009, that wasn't enough to offset the 20 percent decline in selling prices, leading to a 7 percent year-over-year decline in revenues. However, one product in the notebook PC lineup--mini-notebooks (aka netbooks) had an excellent year. Shipments increased from 16.4 million in 2008 to 33.3 million in 2009 for 103 percent growth. Mini-notebooks and portable notebooks now account for more than 85 percent of the entire notebook market.
