SAP's mySAP.com opens on-line forum for MiniApps
SAP has opened an on-line forum for the distribution of MiniApps developed by customers, partners, and SAP for the mySAP.com Workplace. The forum can be accessed through the Web at http://www.sap.com/miniapps.
By providing this open forum, SAP hopes to foster a community that enables interested parties to share best business practices and download ready-to-go MiniApps. MiniApps range from small apps to underlying applications, to information and services that provide users with everything they need to get their job done; they , such as display ing pertinent company news, the latest sales figures, business alerts, travel expense accounting, competitive data, e-mail messages, and other functions that are relevant to effectively perform tasks.
Customers, partners, and SAP are currently developing a broad variety of MiniApps for mySAP.com components, which can be used in conjunction with customer-specific roles or with the nearly 300 predefined roles by SAP.
Oracle introduces e-business service suite
Oracle Service is a comprehensive suite of applications that allows companies to provide customer service across all channels, including the field, the Wweb, the phone, and e-mail. Components include: Oracle Field Service; Oracle Support; Oracle iSupport; Oracle eMail Center; Oracle Contracts; and Oracle Customer Intelligence.
Oracle's Applications Release 11i is scheduled to be available in the second calendar quarter of 2000.
SAP to launch Trust Center Service
The Trust Center Service will establish the unique identity of individuals through browser-based digital certificates. This service offering will provide user authentication and single sign-on capabilities. In addition, the service can be extended for use with partner products, such as smart-card solutions.
The new Trust Center Service integrates with the customer's internal mySAP.com Workplace to distribute digital certificates -- called Passports -- to individual users. The mySAP.com Passport, based on the X.509 certificate standard, contains authenticated user and company information and enables data to be encrypted and transmitted safely over intranets and open Internet connections.
aboutportals.com launches the Portal Authority
Each month, aboutportals.com will feature the opinions and insights of a different industry analyst. Wayne Eckerson, research director of The Data Warehouse Institute, will be the first analyst to contribute to the site. The first article, "Real World Portals," sheds a realistic light on how companies are deploying portals today, including lessons learned on turning this valuable technology into a company's primary electronic workspace.
Developed to be both educational and interactive, aboutportals.com is categorized into six sections, including Technology, Viewpoint, News, Events, The Portal Guy featuring "The Portal Challenge,", Case Studies, and B2B initiatives.
Oracle and Engage to integrate e-business products
Under the terms of the agreement, Oracle and Engage will integrate Engage AdManager, an ad management solution, and Engage ProfileServer, which helps marketers generate real-time profiles of company-specific Web visitors, with Oracle's line of customer relationship management (CRM) applications, including Oracle iStore and Oracle TeleSales. Engage AdManager and ProfileServer already work on the Oracle database platform. In addition, Engage will migrate its Engage Knowledge profiling database servers from Informix to the Oracle8i database platform, at which time it will also be integrated with Oracle's CRM applications.
The integrated solution of products from Oracle and Engage is intended to provide e-businesses around the world with personalization and targeting capabilities that will help them attract, retain, and maximize their relationships with customers through tailored content, advertising, and offers. In addition, companies will be able to use Oracle's analytical data and the profiles developed with ProfileServer to create customer relationship management solutions. These solutions will allow them to extend their marketing reach to prospects Web-wide through Engage's on-line media network properties, which include Engage AudienceNet, Flycast, and Adsmart.
PeopleSoft ships wireless CRM for e-Business
This solution, which will be available across the entire Vantive Enterprise, gives mobile users an inexpensive, lightweight, and functional device as a means of entry into the two-way wireless network. When fully enabled, the application can deliver and receive information over all public networks and many private wireless networks in the world.
J.D. Edwards licenses Proforma's business process modeling software
Under the agreement, J.D. Edwards will license a special version of ProVision Workbench, Proforma's Business Process Modeling software. The process models of ProoVision will allow J.D. Edwards' customers to visually tie together processes and organizations, and link the detailed tasks in those processes directly to their enterprise software applications. The companies also will provide ongoing development support and services for customers.
J.D. Edwards will market ProVision Workbench under the name ActivEra Solution Modeler. The Solution Modeler will be available to all J.D. Edwards' customers as a standard module to help them visualize, understand, and easily change their business processes.
Baan launches regional "E-Business Summits"
Baan says the goal of the sessions is to provide an interactive forum for customers to learn more about how e-business enterprise applications can enhance their organization's bottom line while at the same time communicating back to Baan and its partners what tools and services their operations need most.
Siebel and Lawson partner to Deliver Integrated eBusiness Solutions
Lawson's worldwide sales force will sell this complete family of e-business solutions and e-services along with industry-specific technical training, consulting, and support to both mid-sized firms and large enterprises. The combined product suite, marketed as a component of lawson.insight, will be available in the second quarter of 2000.
