BMC Brings Remedy Management Software to the Cloud

IT management and automation software developer gives customers more flexibility with its latest Software-as-a-Service offering.

BMC Software on Tuesday announced it's now making its Remedy IT management software suite available on demand for enterprise customers looking to complement their on-premise applications with a cloud-based offering.

Remedy ITSM On Demand will be available some time in the second quarter of this year. For now, BMC is mum on the new service's pricing details.

BMC, like so many other software vendors, continues to expand its cloud-based portfolio of applications to provide enterprise customers with the flexibility to choose from both on-premise and cloud-based applications — a hybrid approach that gives customers the lower-priced SaaS options and functionality they need and the security and sense of control they desire for sensitive applications and data.

The on-demand version of Remedy, BMC's flagship IT process automation platform, will natively integrate ITIL processes with service desk, incident, problem, change, release, asset, service request and service level management, company officials said.

It will enable IT administrators to "quickly resolve business-critical incidents, reduce risk and enforce service level agreements without any on-premise infrastructure or support requirements," BMC officials said.

"After carefully observing and analyzing the SaaS market, we believe this is the right time for BMC to make an aggressive move into SaaS," Dev Ittycheria, president of BMC's enterprise service management group, said in a statement. "The overwhelmingly positive response from customers, partners and the analyst community is clear confirmation that the market needs access to an enterprise-class ITSM SaaS solution that makes no compromises."

In July, BMC unveiled its plan to collaborate with Amazon Web Services to allow its existing on-premise customers to extend their datacenters to Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) through BMC's business service management software.

BMC also partnered with in November to bring its BMC Service Desk Express application to the platform.

IDC predicts the system management SaaS market will eclipse $1 billion in sales by 2013.
