eWeek: According to a report from market research firm IDC, demand for non-Unix servers, including RISC, EPIC, and CICS systems, grew 12.3 percent in the first quarter of 2010 to hit $4 billion. That's faster growth than the server market as a whole, and it's the second consecutive quarter of growth for a market that was hit hard by the recession.
The uptick in shipments is good news for HP and IBM, which are no. 1 and 2 in the server market, as well as for Oracle. It was a particularly good quarter for IBM's mainframes, with z/OS shipments growing 41.1 percent year-over-year.
