Computerworld: For several weeks, Mac users have been plagued by a phony anti-virus or "scareware" scam. Now Microsoft researchers Hamish O'Dea and Tareq Saade say the attack is linked to a similar attack on Windows users. "This distribution component reads the client's [browser] user agent in order to discern the operating system, and then serves up a malicious application designed for that operating system," the two explained.
The naming of some files used in these attacks leads the researchers to believe that the group behind the scam is Russian.
