Android, iOS Dominate, Windows Phone Trails

Gartner says that smartphone sales accounted for 23.6 percent of mobile phone sales in the first quarter.

PCMag: According to Gartner's new report on mobile phone sales in the first quarter, Android was the most popular operating system with 36 percent of the worldwide market. Symbian placed second, dropping from 44.2 percent market share last year to 27.4 percent this year. Third-place iOS climbed slightly to capture 16.8 percent of the market. BlackBerry (12.9 percent) and Windows Phone (3.6 percent) both fell slightly.

The report also states that smartphones now account for 23.6 percent of all mobile phone sales, an 85 percent increase over 2010.
