eWeek: A new survey by Business Software Alliance estimated that software piracy costs the industry $59 billion, a 14 percent increase. The most common type of piracy occurs when a company purchases just one software license but installs the application on multiple PCs.

Worldwide, 42 percent of installed software has been pirated, but the rate is higher in emerging markets.
