Computer Weekly: Market research firm Gartner reports that the enterprise software market grew 8.5 percent for a total of $245 billion in sales in 2010. That's a marked difference from 2009's 2.5 percent decline. According to the company, the news demonstrates that the recession was drawing to a close. "The year represented a return to solid footing as the market recovered and expanded in terms of revenue and geographies, but some regions did not recover as rapidly as others," said Gartner's Joanne Correia.
Microsoft, which experienced 22.4 percent growth in enterprise software sales, placed first among vendors in enterprise software revenue. It was followed by IBM, Oracle, SAP and Symantec, in that order.
