Wall Street Journal: Sony has sent Congress a letter answering questions about the cyberattack on its gaming network that resulted in the theft of the personal information of about 100 million Sony customers. The company said it still had not determined who was behind the attack, although one file left behind by the attackers was titled "Anonymous" and contained the words "we are legion." The data breach occurred at the same time that a denial-of-service attack against Sony's servers was being conducted by Anonymous, but company officials were not sure if the two were related.
In the letter, Sony called the incident "a very carefully planned, very professional, highly sophisticated criminal cyberattack designed to steal personal and credit card information for illegal purposes." Among the information stolen by the thieves was credit card information for 5.6 million U.S. customers.
