InternetNews.com: Google has announced that it has accepted 1,116 students for this year's Summer of Code program. Each of the students will spend the school break working on an open source project.

Google will pay each student $5,000 and will give $500 to the organization mentoring the student. That means the company will be injecting $6.14 million into the open source ecosystem.
