eWeek: On Tuesday, RIM launched its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet PC to less-than-stellar reviews and complaints about the lack of tethering on AT&T. Despite those challenges, Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek says the company likely sold 45,000 units on the first day. "If correct, 45K+ sell though on the first day would be a success," Misek wrote. "We also estimate enterprise preorders to be meaningfully higher than consumer. We think PlayBook sales are far exceeding MMI's [Motorola Mobility's] Xoom sales."
Still, 45,000 units sold puts the PlayBook far behind Apple's iPad 2, which likely sold 500,000 units on its first day of availability.
