The Register: A set of diplomatic cables obtained by WikiLeaks and released to the media by a third party sheds more light on ongoing "cyberbattles" between the U.S. and China. The cables detail a set of attacks codenamed "Byzantine Hades" that were traced back to Chengdu, China, a town used by a Chinese electronic espionage unit.

The attacks targeted both government agencies and businesses. In one incident, the Chinese hackers stole "50 megabytes of email messages and attached documents, as well as a complete list of usernames and passwords from an unspecified [US government] agency."
