U.S. Lagging in Using Technology, Study Shows

NY Times: For the second year in a row, the United States placed fifth out of 138 countries in a World Economic Forum report on countries' use of computing and communications technology. Based on indexes that consider a variety of factors, including new patents, mobile phone subscriptions and availability of venture capital, the group ranked Sweden first, followed by Singapore, Finland and Switzerland. China came in 36th, and India ranked 48th.

“What we are trying to address,” said study co-author Soumitra Dutta, “is what is the capability and what is the level of success of a nation to benefit from the network economy?”
