Microsoft Patches Near-Record Number of Bugs

Seventeen bulletins fix 64 security vulnerabilities.

eSecurity Planet: As expected, Microsoft released 17 security updates on Tuesday. The bulletins addressed a total of 64 security vulnerabilities, many of them in Internet Explorer and the Server Message Block (SMB) communications protocol in Windows.

Nine of the updates are rated "critical," while the others are rated "important," including one patch that fixes 30 different security holes.
