Rogue Android Apps Secretly Grab User Data

Millions of users downloaded wallpaper that sends their device's phone number, subscriber identifier number and, in some cases, their voicemail password to a Chinese Web site.

PCWorld: At the Black Hat conference, mobile security firm Lookout revealed that as many as 4 million users may have downloaded Android wallpaper apps that sent their personal data to China. The apps in question featured wallpaper with popular themes like Windows 7, The Simpsons, Dragon Ball, Hello Kitty, etc. and sent users' phone number, subscriber identifier number, and (in some cases) voicemail passwords to a Chinese Web site.

The finding is part of the company's App Genome Project which examines the code of mobile applications.
