PC Magazine: In a posting on its Web site, Apple has responded to complaints about loss of signal strength in the iPhone 4. "We were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong," the statement read. "Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars."
The company will release a software patch to fix this problem within a couple of weeks. However, Apple didn't directly address the question of whether holding the new phone in certain ways causes dropped calls. Instead, it noted that "death grips" can reduce reception on lots of different handsets.
