Hackers Target Google Android In Phishing Attacks

ChannelWeb: In a sign that phishers are turning their attention to mobile phones, more than 50 fraudulent banking apps have popped up in the Android Marketplace. The apps don't contain malware, instead they attempt to get users to enter their passwords, account numbers or other personal information.

Google has removed the offending applications, which targeted customers of Barclays Bank, Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Wachovia and Deutsche Bank, among others.

"Security administrators have been watching the mobile phone industry very diligently over the past few years," said David Sockol, president and CEO of eMagined Security. "As more smartphones are being introduced into the marketplace the number of attacks are growing exponentially. What is difficult or more challenging is that the Google operating system is a more open platform than others."
