By Tom DunlapFacebook has been a hot topic around the house lately.
First, old high school friends have been reaching out a lot lately (Carson High rules!) Second, my younger sister is conducting a poll for her college class and analyzing the results on how many hours a week people use Facebook. (Thanks, sis, for this blog idea.)
And today I was talking to my wife, a security analyst, about the emerging trends in email security. She told me that something like 90 percent of all email messages are now spam. Which sparked a Facebook connection in my cranium. That's one of the reasons Facebook is getting so popular. Because it bypasses the old-world email messaging boondoggle.
There was also a story this week about how huge the Facebook community has grown. Going forward, my concern is that the old-world hacks will
really infest the new world, there'll be massive attacks of the kind that crippled Twitter recently, and we'll finally realize my dream of going back to newspapers and carrier pigeons. But that's for another column.
For today, the poll question (complete with questionable verb use) is:
How many hours do you Facebook per week?
To Vote in the Poll (it takes a couple steps, so I beg your indulgence):
