You know you have plenty of 'em, stuffed in drawers, closets and that lower desk drawer: old gadgets. Maybe it's a digital camera that was forgotten after you splurged on a newer model, or an iPod bought in a moment of sheer gadget lust, only to be replaced when you picked up the super-duper video model.
This still valuable but no longer loved electronics gear can be worth some cash, even if you don't want to bother with hawking it on eBay. A number of sites have sprung up that will pay you for your unwanted gear:
Gazelle Accepts everything from cell phones to MP3 players to gaming consoles. They claim they evaluate the gear you send them (to make sure it matches your description) and pay you in about a week.
VenJuvo Accepts essentially what Gazelle does, and yes, they accept broken items (presumably for a far lower dollar amount). They'll also pay you in a KMart gift card instead of cash, claiming that this gives you a 10 percent bonus above cash.
MyBoneYard A slightly shorter list of accepted goods, and they pay with Visa rewards cards instead of cash.
Tip: Try pricing your items at each of the three sites before accepting an offer. I've heard that the payments can vary dramatically.
Naturally, these sites turn around and resell your gear for a higher price, sometimes overseas. So while they save you the trouble of listing on eBay, they must be paying sellers correspondingly lower.
But here's the question: is one of them far better than the rest? Anyone have any experience with these services?
